The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University in New Orleans seeks highly motivated students with an interest pursuing graduate studies in planetary science. Dr. Whitten is looking to recruit a student starting in the fall of 2022 to work on producing a USGS geologic map of the south polar region of Mars. This region involves an extensive ice deposit, as well as an ancient impact basin, and many other interesting landforms. Students will use multiple orbital datasets to analyze the geomorphology and surfaces properties of this region of Mars. Experience analyzing remote sensing datasets using Geographical Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS) is highly desirable. Tulane graduate applications are due at the end of December each year.
